About 115,000 marijuana plants found in the rural area of a town in PI

A large-scale marijuana plantation with approximately 115,000 plants was discovered in Vera Mendes, Piauí, during a police operation.

On Sunday morning, a significant marijuana cultivation site was uncovered in the rural location of Bom Lugar, in the municipality of Vera Mendes, southern Piauí, by local Civil and Military police. The plantation spanned around 3.8 hectares and was empty of workers at the time of the police's arrival, leading to no arrests. The operation, part of a larger initiative named Operation Desarme, aims to combat organized crime and illegal trafficking of weapons, ammunition, and explosives in the region.

The Piauí State Security Secretariat confirmed that the property owner where the marijuana plants were discovered has been identified and registered by law enforcement officials. Samples of the plants have been collected for further analysis, indicating the authorities are taking necessary steps to understand the scale of illegal activities associated with the plantation. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to uncover any additional individuals connected to the drug cultivation operation and appropriate legal actions are being planned.

Initial assessments by security forces suggest that the eradication of this plantation significantly disrupts the local drug trade and could have broader implications for organized crime, which remains a critical concern in many parts of Brazil. The success of this operation underlines the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in dismantling large-scale drug operations while also protecting community safety in rural areas.
