Suspect involved in the death of civil police officer in Guamá is arrested in Belém

A suspect was arrested in Belém for involvement in the death of civil police investigator Ediel Bitencourt.

A man identified as G.Q.R. has been arrested in Belém, Brazil, on suspicion of involvement in the death of civil police investigator Ediel Bitencourt, which occurred on May 10, 2025, in the Guamá neighborhood. The arrest took place on Friday, September 13, in a region known for its difficult accessibility, near the islands of the capital. G.Q.R. was wanted under an open arrest warrant and was reportedly hiding in a remote area.

The operation leading to G.Q.R.'s arrest was conducted by the Special Missions Command (CME) with significant assistance from the Rural Environment Patrol Group (GPAR), which is part of the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE). They were supported by the Fluvial Grouping (GFLU) from the Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat (Segup). As agents approached the designated location, they spotted the suspect on the back porch of the house and ordered him to stop. Further searches within the residence revealed illegal substances and paraphernalia, including 18 medium-sized packets of a substance resembling oxi, a precise scale, and two cell phones.
