Suspect of stranguating ex-partner in Belém is arrested in Igarapé-Miri
A man has been arrested for the suspected feminicide of his ex-partner in Belém, Brazil, after he fled to Igarapé-Miri.
On Thursday, Police Civil authorities arrested Amintas da Costa Viana, who is suspected of strangling his ex-partner, Maria do Socorro Guimarães, in her residence located in the Condor neighborhood of Belém, Brazil. The chilling crime took place in the early hours of Tuesday, October 10, where the victim, aged 60, was discovered dead by her grandson. Surveillance cameras captured footage of a man entering her home late on Monday night, shortly before the crime occurred.
Following the incident, Viana fled from Belém, prompting an urgent investigation by the Delegacia de Enfrentamento do Feminicídio (DEFEM) and the Núcleo de Inteligência Policial (NIP), which eventually tracked him to Igarapé-Miri, a municipality located in the northeastern region of the state. The police's rapid response and investigative efforts led to his immediate capture in proximity to the Igarapé-Miri police station, as confirmed by the lead investigator, Delegate Adriany Carvalho.
