Finland wins silver in wrestling at the European Championships!

Finnish wrestler Oliver Pada won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the U23 European Championships held in Zrenjanin, Serbia.

Oliver Pada, a 21-year-old Finnish wrestler, achieved a significant milestone by winning a silver medal in the Greco-Roman wrestling category at the U23 European Championships in Zrenjanin, Serbia. In the finals, he faced off against Rabil Askerov from Russia, who dominated the match, taking an early lead and winning decisively with a score of 6-0. Askerov was an extremely tough competitor, having previously won all his matches in the tournament, giving up points in only one bout, which ended in a draw at 2-2.

Prior to the final, Pada had a successful run in the tournament, winning all his matches, albeit with closer scores compared to Askerov's performances. In the semifinals, he overcame Greece's Arionas Kolitsopoulos, who had initially led the first period before Pada rallied to win 6-3. This performance adds to Pada's credentials, as he previously claimed a bronze medal at the U20 World Championships last year. Askerov, who defeated Pada in the final, had previously experienced an unexpected early exit from the same championships last year while finishing in 17th place.

This silver medal marks a significant achievement for Finnish wrestling, showcasing the potential of young wrestlers in international competitions. With only four Finnish wrestlers having previously won U23 medals, Pada's success may inspire future athletes in the sport and promote greater interest in Greco-Roman wrestling in Finland.
