Planning an attack in France: two Moroccans arrested, but one has Italian nationality

Two brothers of Moroccan descent, one of whom has Italian nationality, have been arrested in France for allegedly planning an anti-Semitic attack.

French authorities have arrested two brothers, 22-year-old Elyasse H. and 20-year-old Moad H., on suspicions of plotting a deadly anti-Semitic attack. The arrests were carried out on March 10, following a drone surveillance operation near a prison in Longuenesse, a locality in the Pas-de-Calais department. The brothers, who hold both Italian and Moroccan nationalities, were reportedly identified by their suspicious presence in the vicinity of the correctional facility.

The prosecutors from the national anti-terrorism division (Pnat) provided preliminary details about the case, highlighting that the brothers were allegedly preparing what they termed a "mortal and anti-Semitic plan." The use of drone surveillance indicates a serious approach to monitoring potential threats in the region, reflecting growing concerns over domestic terrorism and radicalization.

This incident raises broader questions about the radicalization of individuals in European countries, especially among the youth, and how dual nationalities can complicate law enforcement operations. The Italian nationality of one of the arrested individuals also underscores ongoing discussions about national security, immigration policies, and the measures needed to prevent such plots in the future, particularly in the context of rising anti-Semitic incidents across Europe.
