Sarpanch murder case in Moga, Punjab; all four accused arrested

Four main accused in the sarpanch murder case in Moga, Punjab, have been arrested after fleeing to Jammu and Kashmir.

In a significant development in the sarpanch murder case that took place in the Baghapurana area of Moga district on March 6, law enforcement agencies have arrested the four primary accused. The arrested individuals, identified as Manpreet Singh alias Babloo, Yogesh Sharma, Harvinder Singh alias Hinda, and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa, had fled to Jammu and Kashmir immediately after the incident. They were subsequently apprehended and brought back to Moga on transit remand.

Initial investigations revealed that the murdered sarpanch, Harvinder Singh, was assisting a woman which angered her husband, Manpreet Singh, who then orchestrated the murder along with his accomplices. The attack was brazen, as the accused fired approximately 15 rounds in a crowded market using a rented Fortuner vehicle, leading to the death of the sarpanch. This shocking act has raised concerns over the rule of law and safety in the region.

The police have not only arrested the suspects but also recovered the weapon used in the crime and the vehicle involved in the murder. This incident highlights a troubling trend of violence against elected representatives in rural areas, and the swift police action may serve as a deterrent to similar crimes in the future. The community, however, remains shaken, prompting discussions on security measures for local leaders and their safety in performing civic duties.
