Gallery: Silver Vahtre opened a personal exhibition 'The Pike Feeds on the Sun'
The exhibition celebrates Silver Vahtre's 50 years of artistic activity, showcasing his work as a graphic artist and set designer.
Silver Vahtre's latest exhibition, titled 'The Pike Feeds on the Sun,' was inaugurated at the Vanemuine Theatre, marking his impressive 50-year career in the art world. The exhibition features three series of graphic works alongside plans for theatrical sets created for performances at the theatre. This retrospective not only highlights his artistic journey but also offers a comprehensive overview of his contributions to both graphic art and stage design.
The first graphic series, 'Flying Women,' is a narrative visual journey that depicts the cycle of life and inner transformation. This series captures an abstract structure that, through the creative process, evolves into a recognizable form—the woman. 'Flying Women' symbolizes balance and perfection, representing the convergence of the earthly and the cosmic, inviting viewers to reflect on their existence and the beauty of life.
In the second series, 'The World of Kalevipoeg,' Vahtre interprets the Estonian national epic 'Kalevipoeg' in a contemporary visual language. This thematic composition constructed in a circular time format creatively interweaves digital and silk printing techniques, unveiling the cyclic nature of the epic tale where myth, time, and human self-perception intertwine. 'Pictures Speak This Way,' the last series, presents partially interconnected images, challenging viewers to explore the narratives that emerge through these artistic expressions.
