Kim Eun-ji wins the Senko Cup World Baduk by defeating Fujisawa, achieving her second victory in a world tournament after the Okchonwon Cup
South Korean women’s baduk player Kim Eun-ji secured the championship at the Senko Cup international tournament in Tokyo, Japan.
Kim Eun-ji, the top-ranked women’s baduk player from South Korea, won the 2026 Senko Cup World Women's Baduk Championship held in Tokyo, Japan. In the final match on the 15th, she faced off against Japan's Fujisawa Rina and claimed victory after 246 moves, taking home a prize of 10 million yen (approximately 93,000 USD). This victory marks Kim's second triumph in a world tournament, following her win at the Okchonwon Cup last year.
Throughout the Senko Cup, Kim displayed her competitive prowess, overcoming various opponents leading up to the final match. She first defeated Japan’s Kato Jie, a 4-dan player, in the quarterfinals and then advanced by beating Ueno Asami, a 6-dan player, in the semifinals. The final match saw a back-and-forth struggle between Kim and Fujisawa, but Kim ultimately established a solid advantage and forced her opponent to resign, showcasing her tactical strength in baduk.
The Senko Cup is an esteemed international tournament, featuring participants from Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. With four representatives from the host nation Japan and one each from the other invited countries, the competition included intense matches where Kim performed exceptionally well. Having a time limit of 1 hour and 55 minutes plus five one-minute ‘read time’ opportunities per player, the tournament tested the skills and strategies of all competitors, highlighting Kim's excellent performance throughout the event.
