Arken celebrates its 30th birthday with free admission

Arken Museum in Ishøj is celebrating its 30th anniversary on Sunday by offering free entry and a variety of festivities including live music and special talks.

On Sunday, the Arken Museum in Ishøj west of Copenhagen will celebrate 30 years since its opening, inviting the public to enjoy free entry as part of the festivities. The event will feature various activities including live music, birthday cake, and talks. A highlight of the day will be a guided tour of the exhibition '55.6° North', which showcases contemporary Nordic art and explores themes of modern Nordic identity.

The '55.6° North' exhibition opened earlier this year and addresses crucial questions about what it means to be Nordic today. According to Dorthe Juul Rugaard, the chief of Arken's collection and curator of the exhibition, it presents discussions on community values, the individuals who align with these themes, and their purpose in contemporary society. This initiative is a significant part of the museum's mission to engage with current artistic expressions and the Nordic experience.

Additionally, the celebration will include a screening of 'Sixteen', a series of short films created by young filmmakers from the local area of Vestegnen. This special 30th birthday event not only marks a milestone for the museum but also fosters community engagement and highlights the museum's role in promoting contemporary art and culture in Denmark.
