On Friday, the Environmental Police rescued an injured tapir cub in Narandiba, São Paulo, located 45 km from Presidente Prudente. The cub was discovered by employees of a nearby sugarcane and alcohol plant, hiding in a puddle of water in the sugarcane field. Initial assessments revealed injuries to its hind legs, prompting an urgent response from the police to ensure the animal's safety and well-being.

The Environmental Police swiftly acted to remove the wounded tapir from the hazardous fields and transported it to the Associação Protetora dos Animais Silvestres de Assis (Apass) for professional care. This organization specializes in the rehabilitation of wild animals, offering the necessary medical treatment for the injuries sustained by the cub. The prompt rescue highlights the crucial role of local authorities in wildlife protection, especially in agricultural areas where animals are often exposed to human activities.

Once the tapir has received adequate rehabilitation and is fit for release, the plan is to return it to its natural habitat.
