Egyptian actor Mahmoud Higazi has been sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting his wife amid domestic disputes.

An Egyptian court has sentenced actor Mahmoud Higazi to six months in prison after finding him guilty of assaulting his wife, Rana Tarek, during a domestic dispute. The court also imposed a bail of five thousand Egyptian pounds (approximately $100) and a temporary civil compensation of the same amount. The assault reportedly occurred at their home in 6th of October City, where the couple's argument escalated to physical and verbal abuse in front of neighbors and Tarek's mother, leading to her hospitalization for injuries sustained in the altercation.

The legal proceedings began when Tarek filed a complaint against Higazi, claiming he had physically assaulted her after a heated argument. Medical reports later confirmed she suffered multiple bruises and injuries to her face and body, necessitating her transfer to a specialist for further evaluation. Investigations by the authorities revealed the altercation stemmed from ongoing familial disputes between Higazi and Tarek, prompting further inquiries into the matter.

Higazi, who had previously been released on a bail of ten thousand Egyptian pounds while the investigation was ongoing, has maintained his innocence throughout the legal process. The case highlights issues surrounding domestic violence in Egypt, raising awareness and discussions about the need for better protection for victims of such offenses and the judicial responses to allegations of domestic abuse.
