Regulation reduces presence of bets in the Série A of the Brazilian Championship
Due to increased regulation, several teams have lost sponsorship deals with sports betting companies in the Brazilian Championship.
In the 2025 edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro, 18 out of 20 teams had master sponsorships from sports betting companies, commonly known as 'bets'. These companies prominently featured their brands on the teams' uniforms. However, by the 2026 season, this landscape dramatically changed, primarily due to new regulations that have raised costs and squeezed the margins for sports sponsorship investments.
As a result, several prominent teams such as Santos, Vasco, Bahia, Internacional, Grêmio, and Coritiba have severed their ties with betting sponsors over recent months. For instance, the two clubs from Porto Alegre, Grêmio and Internacional, terminated their contracts with Alfa Bet following numerous delays in payments by the partner. Meanwhile, Santos and Bahia amicably decided to end their contracts with 7k and Viva Sorte Bet, respectively. In contrast, Vasco and Coritiba failed to renew their agreements with Betfair and Reals Bet.
Of the teams mentioned, Santos is the last remaining club with a significant betting sponsorship, highlighting a significant shift in the sponsorship landscape in Brazilian football. This reduction in support from betting companies could impact the financial stability of these clubs and force them to rethink their marketing strategies moving forward. It remains to be seen how the regulatory landscape will unfold and what it means for the future of sports betting in Brazil.
