Acceleration to one hundred in 4 seconds: Mitsubishi and iPhone manufacturer prepare an affordable electric car
Mitsubishi, in collaboration with Foxconn, is developing an affordable electric vehicle expected to compete with models like the MG4 and Volkswagen ID.3.
Mitsubishi has announced plans to launch an affordable electric vehicle in partnership with Taiwanese company Foxconn, renowned for manufacturing iPhones. While the exact name of the vehicle remains undisclosed, Mitsubishi has recently registered trademarks for "ASX VR-e" and "ASX GT-e". The upcoming model will be based on the 'Foxtron Bria', a compact hatchback featuring a distinct design, measuring 4.3 meters in length, which aims to challenge existing electric vehicles in the market.
The 'Foxtron Bria' is offered in two versions, with one variant producing 229 horsepower with rear-wheel drive, while another features a 400-horsepower all-wheel drive system. Acceleration to 100 km/h is reported at 6.8 seconds for the rear-drive model and a speedy 3.9 seconds for the all-wheel drive version. Both configurations utilize a 57.5 kWh battery, boasting impressive ranges of 466 km and 516 km respectively, making them an appealing choice for consumers looking for efficiency and performance.
Pricing for the 'Foxtron Bria' ranges from $28,700 to $36,400, suggesting that the Mitsubishi electric vehicle will likely be positioned within a similar price bracket to attract budget-conscious consumers. This move indicates Mitsubishi's strategic shift toward electric mobility and its response to the increasing competition in the electric vehicle market, particularly against models like the MG4 and Volkswagen ID.3, highlighting the growing trend of established automotive brands collaborating with tech companies to innovate in the electric vehicle sector.
