Driver Fails to Notice Crater and Falls with Truck in São João del Rei; VIDEO

A 28-year-old driver fell into a crater with his truck in São João del Rei after failing to notice the hole or its warning signs.

On a Friday night in São João del Rei, Brazil, a 28-year-old driver fell into a deep crater on Ribeiro Bastos street, near the Church of São Francisco de Assis. The accident occurred when the driver reportedly did not notice the crater or the warning signs that were supposed to indicate the hazard. Fortunately, a breathalyzer test resulted in a negative reading for alcohol, and the driver’s documentation was up to date.

The local authorities, specifically the Military Police, reported that the location where the accident took place had been marked with orange protective signs to alert drivers. Despite this, the driver failed to heed the warning, leading to the unfortunate incident. Following the accident, the Secretary of Works arrived at the scene to assist in removing the vehicle with the help of a machine, indicating a coordinated response from local officials to manage the situation.

G1 contacted the São João del Rei City Hall to inquire about the details of the crater itself, including how it formed and whether it resulted from recent rains in the area. However, as of the last update, they had not received a response, highlighting the ongoing issues of road maintenance and safety in the region that require further attention. The lack of information also raises concerns about infrastructure management and accountability on local road conditions.
