Osun IPAC election delayed over missing electoral committee
The election of new leadership for the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Osun State was postponed due to the absence of the electoral committee members.
The scheduled election for new leadership within the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun State was significantly delayed on Saturday due to the non-appearance of the electoral committee responsible for conducting the election. The IPAC election was to take place at the Osun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo, and was overseen by a committee from the IPAC national secretariat located in Abuja.
Despite the timely arrival of all 19 political party chairmen, who signed in at the INEC premises by 11 a.m., the election did not commence as planned. Reports indicate that by 2:14 p.m., no progress had been made, and frustration was evident among the party leaders present. Prince Adesoji Masilo, the chairman of the Booth Party, expressed his concern regarding the committee's absence, highlighting the impact of this delay on the political process in the state and the necessity for effective organization within the electoral body.
The postponement of the IPAC election raises questions about the readiness and reliability of electoral processes in Osun State, especially given the significance of IPAC in facilitating dialogue among political parties. These events signal the need for improved coordination between state and national electoral bodies to ensure seamless operations, thereby reinforcing public confidence in the electoral system. The gravity of organizing a democratic process is accentuated by the potential implications for inter-party cooperations and political interactions in the region.
