Injuries and building damage from Iranian shelling on Eilat, southern Israel

Two injuries and damage to buildings were reported in Eilat, Israel, following Iranian missile strikes after Iran announced the beginning of an attack on Israel.

Israeli Civil Defense reported that two people were injured as a result of a new round of Iranian missile strikes on Eilat, southern Israel, shortly after Iranian television announced the commencement of the attack on Israel. Damage has been confirmed to two buildings in Eilat and another two in the Jerusalem area due to the Iranian bombardment. Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that fragments from the Iranian missile struck 10 sites in Eilat, leading to material damage and injuries.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the Iranian missile that struck Eilat carried a cluster warhead, causing substantial harm to several structures. The Israeli Home Front had tracked the missile's launch toward the city of Eilat and its surrounding areas, triggering alarm sirens across the city. Reports from Yisrael Hayom later indicated that the missile was intercepted, helping to mitigate further damage. Notably, the official Israeli radio confirmed that three missiles landed in open, uninhabited areas in central Israel, but residents reported hearing five loud explosions from the Iranian shelling, notably in the greater Tel Aviv area.

Simultaneously with the Iranian attack, Israeli ground defenses noted increased missile launches from Lebanon, signaling a potentially escalating conflict in the region. This series of missile attacks and the heightened tensions point to a troubling development in the ongoing military confrontations between Iran and Israel, with both sides likely to respond in ways that escalate or exacerbate the situation significantly.
