On March 14, 2023, Latvia recorded unprecedented warmth, with the highest temperature reaching +17.1 degrees Celsius in Liepāja, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. This marked a remarkable event as the previous record for this date, established in 1972 with a maximum of +13.6 degrees Celsius in Riga, was shattered at all 25 weather observation stations across the country. In several places, including Ainaži, Pāvilosta, Rucava, Skulte, and Ventspils, not only was the March 14 record broken, but also the second decade of the month experienced an extraordinary heat wave.
