Austrian skier Julia Scheib won the giant slalom in Are, Sweden, securing the specialty Cup and finishing ahead of Paula Moltzan and Alice Robinson.
The Austrian skier Julia Scheib achieved a remarkable victory in the giant slalom held in Are, Sweden, finishing with a time of 2'22"41. This win not only secured the race but also allowed her to clinch the World Cup specialty title. Scheib's performance was outstanding, finishing 0.36 seconds ahead of American Paula Moltzan and 0.75 seconds ahead of New Zealand's Alice Robinson, showcasing her exceptional skill on the slopes.
During the race, Swiss skier Camille Rast, who led after the first run, unfortunately failed to finish the second run, which left the path open for Scheib to secure her place atop the podium. Notably, American skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who has recently been rejuvenating her performance, finished in fifth place, trailing by 2.22 seconds. Meanwhile, Italy's Sofia Goggia, a previous favorite, did not complete the second run and finished out of the competition, while fellow Italian Asja Zenere managed to secure a tenth-place finish, 2.78 seconds behind Scheib.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Scheib, further establishing her as a formidable contender in alpine skiing, particularly in giant slalom.
