Laboratory-confirmed case of measles - SPKC calls for contacts to get in touch
The SPKC has announced a laboratory-confirmed case of measles and is urging individuals who may have come into contact with the infected person to reach out.
The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) in Latvia has reported a laboratory-confirmed case of measles, prompting a public alert for individuals who may have had contact with the infected person. The potential infection may have occurred during the 'Ļutauras viktorinas' event held in Riga on the 21st and 22nd of February.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the infected individual traveled from Riga to Turkey on March 5th, taking flight TK1758. SPKC has notified the relevant authorities in Turkey about the case to help identify potential exposures among other passengers on the flight. The SPKC’s swift response aims to mitigate the spread of measles by tracing contacts and preventing further infections.
The SPKC is actively urging anyone who attended the aforementioned event or was on the flight from Riga to Turkey to contact their epidemiologists for an individual risk assessment and to receive necessary recommendations. This proactive approach underscores the importance of public health surveillance and community cooperation in managing infectious disease outbreaks effectively.
