The 18th Military Police Battalion of Interior (BPM/I), located in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, is commemorating its 60th anniversary, having been established on March 14, 1966. It was the first Military Police battalion created in western São Paulo and has since grown to oversee policing in 21 municipalities across an expansive area of over 9,500 square kilometers. Currently, the battalion is staffed by more than 500 officers, with a notable 12% of its personnel being women, reflecting a progressive shift in the force's composition over the decades.

In the early months of 2026 alone, the battalion reported nearly 7,000 police actions, including over 180 arrests, alongside the seizure of more than 50 kilograms of drugs and 19 firearms. These statistics not only showcase the operational effectiveness of the 18th BPM/I but also underline the persistent challenges in addressing crime in the region.
