Two official cars for the Minister of Culture: the brand new 'Audi A6' was not enough
The Lithuanian Minister of Culture rented two cars simultaneously, including a high-end Audi A6 for 840 euros per month and a Toyota Rav 4 for 650 euros per month.
The Lithuanian Minister of Culture, V. Aleknavičienė, has recently made headlines due to the decision to lease two government vehicles. The first is an Audi A6, which was obtained under a contract signed with the company Olego transportas at a monthly rental cost of 840 euros. The contract required the vehicle to be a hybrid, of no less than E2 prestige class, and to be manufactured no more than ten months before its delivery to the ministry. These specifications highlight a push for more sustainable and modern transportation within the government’s fleet.
In addition to the Audi A6, the minister also secured a Toyota Rav 4, which is being rented for 650 euros per month from the official Toyota distributor in Lithuania, the company Sovli. This move raises questions about the necessity of two separate vehicles for a single minister, particularly when considering the financial implications of such expenditures from taxpayer funds. The minister reportedly extended an existing rental contract for this vehicle to support her official duties as a member of parliament.
Critics and citizens are now left to ponder the appropriateness of this decision, especially in light of Lithuania's current economic situation and the government's commitment to prudent fiscal management. The juxtaposition of securing high-end vehicles while addressing public financial concerns demonstrates the conflicting priorities that can arise in government operations, prompting a community discussion about the moral and financial implications of such choices.
