A Russian drone strike in Kharkiv Oblast injured a train driver and his assistant while there were no passengers harmed.
On the night of March 13-14, a Russian drone attack targeted a commuter train in Kharkiv Oblast, injuring both the train driver and his assistant who sustained shrapnel wounds. Fortunately, no passengers were on board at the time of the attack, and medics were able to treat the injured crew members on the scene. The attack caused damage to the diesel locomotive, which was operating due to a previous power outage in the overhead line network.
This incident follows a similar drone strike the previous night on a station in the Kryvyi Rih district, where a locomotive was also damaged. In that case, the crew had been evacuated before the attack, preventing any casualties. These ongoing drone strikes highlight the increasing use of such tactics in the conflict, raising concerns about the safety of railway operations in Ukraine.
Previous incidents have illustrated the dangers faced by rail transport in Ukraine, such as the drone strike on a train traveling from Kyiv to Sumy that occurred earlier on March 8, involving around 200 passengers. These attacks not only threaten lives but also disrupt vital transportation services amid ongoing strife, underscoring the urgency for effective protective measures for civilian transport.
