Unbelievable success – rescuers managed to pull the driver of a car that sunk in the creek in Šakiai district

Rescuers successfully extracted a conscious driver from a submerged car in a creek in the Šakiai district of Lithuania.

On March 13th, at 6:06 AM, the Kaunas Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call reporting that a car had entered a creek in the town of Lukšiai, Šakiai district. Upon arrival, rescuers found that a Volkswagen Touran had crashed through a protective road barrier and was almost fully submerged, with only about 20 cm of the roof visible above the water. The driver, born in 1982, was found conscious and was subsequently handed over to medical professionals for evaluation.

The responders faced challenges as they pulled the vehicle from the creek using a towing cable while ensuring the safety of the driver. Once extracted, the car's battery was disconnected to prevent any possible hazards. In addition, the emergency team collected pollutants that had spilled both in the creek and along the shore, which indicates that the incident may have not only endangered the driver but also posed environmental risks to the local waterway.

This incident highlights the vital role of emergency services in rescuing individuals from dangerous situations and underscores the importance of having barriers in place to prevent accidents that could lead to vehicles ending up in waterways. Additionally, the quick response from the fire and rescue team likely played a pivotal role in saving the driver's life, reinforcing the need for ongoing support and training for such emergency services in Lithuania.
