National emergency declared due to rains

Ecuador has declared a national emergency in response to severe weather conditions that have caused significant fatalities and widespread damage.

Ecuador is facing a national emergency due to severe and prolonged rainfall that has resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals and affected over 46,700 people across numerous regions. The National Risk Management Secretariat (SNGR) reported that there have been 1,662 adverse events impacting 190 cantons and 590 parishes, prompting the government to take action to protect its citizens and infrastructure.

The recent technical analysis from the SNGR indicates a sharp increase of 56% in rainfall events, with the effects on the local population escalating by 154%. In light of the gravity of the situation, President Daniel Noboa issued Executive Decree 325, prioritizing immediate action on preparedness, response, and recovery measures to address the devastating impacts of the rainy season across the nation.

This declaration highlights the urgency for coordinated efforts among government authorities to mitigate the effects of the extreme weather, as heavy rains threaten livelihoods and infrastructure. The response plan aims to ensure that the necessary resources and support are mobilized promptly to aid affected communities and prevent further casualties and damage through comprehensive recovery strategies.
