Ecuador government declares priority for prevention and response actions during rainy season
The Ecuadorian government, led by President Daniel Noboa, has declared an emergency response plan to address the impacts of the winter storm during the rainy season.
In response to the severe consequences of a winter storm affecting the country, the Ecuadorian government has officially prioritized prevention and response actions related to the rainy season. President Daniel Noboa announced this by issuing Executive Decree 310 on February 27. This decision emphasizes the urgent need for coordinated efforts to mitigate the adverse effects caused by the heavy rains, focusing particularly on regions that are most at risk.
Alongside this decree, the National Risk Management Secretary (SNGR) has declared a regional state of emergency for 90 days in eight provinces that have been significantly impacted by the winter storm. The declaration aims to facilitate immediate intervention strategies that address both the current and potential future challenges posed by the continuing adverse weather conditions. The government's commitment to this emergency response reflects a serious acknowledgment of the risks associated with inclement weather patterns.
The measures outlined in the decree stress the importance of collaboration among various governmental and emergency response agencies to ensure swift actions in preparation, response, and recovery phases. This coordinated approach seeks to safeguard communities, particularly in identified provinces that are experiencing heightened vulnerability due to persistent rainfall and the accompanying natural disasters, including flooding and landslides.
