Fresh snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti, yellow alert in several districts of Himachal
Fresh snowfall has occurred in the higher tribal areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, accompanied by a yellow alert for thunderstorm and heavy winds in surrounding districts.
In the high-altitude tribal areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, fresh snowfall has been recorded, leading to a slight drop in temperatures. The meteorological department's center in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in the region. On March 15, areas such as Una, Bilaspur, and Harimpur are expected to experience wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h along with possible thunderstorms. Furthermore, similar weather is anticipated in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla on the 15th and 16th of March. On the 14th of March, alerts for heatwaves to severe heatwaves were issued for Kangra, Mandi, and Solan. According to the weather department, a new western disturbance could become active in north-west India starting March 14, bringing the possibility of light rain or snowfall in various locations on the 14th and 17th of March, with further precipitation expected on the 15th, 18th, and 19th of March. During this fresh snowfall, an accumulation of 10 cm was observed in the area of Hansa. This weather pattern suggests that residents should be prepared for varying conditions, including potential heavy rainfall, thunder, and changes in temperature over the coming days, impacting travel and daily activities in these mountainous regions.
