Illegal buildings on embassies’ land will be demolished – Wike
Nigeria's Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to demolish illegal buildings constructed on land designated for foreign embassies in Abuja.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, has publicly condemned the illegal construction of buildings on plots intended for foreign embassies in the diplomatic zone of Katampe Extension, Abuja. During a recent inspection tour of infrastructure projects, Wike emphasized that these illegal structures would not be permitted to remain and ordered their immediate demolition. He remarked that such encroachments undermine the integrity of diplomatic areas which are critical for international relations and respect for sovereignty.
Wike's statements came alongside a comprehensive tour of various infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory. He inspected several key roads and infrastructure works, particularly a route connecting Wuse to the Central Area and other roads that are crucial for enhancing transportation in the city. The minister expressed optimism that these infrastructure projects would be completed timely, coinciding with the upcoming third-anniversary celebrations of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This decision to demolish illegal structures underscores the government's commitment to upholding legal allocations and maintaining order in the capital's urban planning. By prioritizing the protection of diplomatic zones, Wike is sending a strong message about Nigeria's approach to international relations and the importance of adhering to established land-use policies.
