Maari Randväli, a 16-year-old swimmer from Estonia, has made headlines by breaking the national record for the 100 meters backstroke at a competitive event in Edinburgh. She clocked an impressive time of 1:01.65, surpassing the previous record of 1:01.85 set by Aleksa Gold in 2021. This latest achievement marks Randväli's second Estonian record, adding the backstroke to her previous record in the 50 meters distance, showcasing her rapid progression in the sport.
In addition to setting a new national record, Randväli also recorded the junior record for her age group, breaking the long-standing mark of 1:01.98 set by Alina Kendzior a decade ago.
