A 23-year-old man has filed a police report alleging that he was subjected to public humiliation when health professionals at the UPA Oeste in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, confirmed his HIV positive status out loud. This incident occurred during a visit to initiate Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), which is an emergency measure provided by the Brazilian Health System (SUS) to prevent HIV as well as other sexually transmitted infections after potential exposure. The patient was at the facility following a sexual encounter that raised concerns about possible HIV transmission.
