84 dead Iranian sailors sent home to Iran from Sri Lanka
84 Iranian sailors killed in a torpedo attack on their ship have been returned to Iran from Sri Lanka, while 32 survivors remain on the island.
The tragic incident occurred on March 4, when the Iranian warship IRIS Dena was torpedoed off the coast of Sri Lanka, leading to the deaths of 84 sailors. The attack has raised significant concerns about maritime security in the region. Following the incident, the 32 survivors are currently located in Sri Lanka, causing a humanitarian response from the local authorities addressing their status. Additionally, the Iranian warship IRIS Bushehr was granted permission to enter Sri Lankan waters just a day after the sinking of the Dena. This vessel, alongside its crew of 219 sailors, has also been allowed to remain in Sri Lankan ports further complicating the dynamics in the region.
