Bodies of 84 sailors to be sent from Sri Lanka to Iran, died in American attack

The bodies of 84 Iranian sailors, killed in an American submarine attack, are being repatriated to Iran after a Sri Lankan court ordered their handover to the Iranian embassy.

A tragic incident in early March in the Indian Ocean has led to the decision by the Sri Lankan government to repatriate the bodies of 84 Iranian sailors who lost their lives in an American submarine attack. Following the order from a Colombo court, the bureaucratic process for returning these sailors' remains to Iran has been completed, and the repatriation has commenced. This follows a shocking attack that has significant regional implications, extending the conflict in the Middle East closer to India.

The attack occurred on March 4, when the Iranian vessel named Iris Deena sank near the Sri Lankan coast, reportedly with around 180 crew members on board. While the Sri Lankan Navy was able to rescue 32 sailors immediately, the incident left 84 dead, with their bodies subsequently recovered. However, the fate of approximately 60 other crew members remains uncertain as they are still missing without any leads on their whereabouts.

This event not only marks a tragic loss of life but also highlights the growing tensions in international waters, with Middle Eastern conflicts increasingly impacting the region surrounding India. The repatriation of these bodies symbolizes a delicate diplomatic situation as Sri Lanka navigates its position amid regional conflicts involving larger powers.
