In a significant operation carried out by the Public Ministry of Amazonas, eleven military police officers were arrested on preventive detention warrants related to the investigation of the death of 19-year-old João Paulo Maciel dos Santos. The operation, called "Simulacrum," took place on Friday, the 13th, and targeted officers from the Rondas Ostensivas Cândido Mariano (Rocam) unit, including a captain, two corporals, a third sergeant, and seven soldiers. The successful capture of ten officers was notable, as one remained at large, having left the state.

The case that triggered this investigation stemmed from an incident in October 2025, where João Paulo was killed during a police intervention in the Vila da Prata neighborhood of Manaus. The incident became highly publicized following the release of videos depicting the police approach, leading to widespread public concern and scrutiny. In total, 19 military police officers have been indicted in relation to this case, facing serious charges, including qualified homicide and procedural fraud.

Moreover, the judiciary has authorized a series of warrants related to this case, which encompasses 11 preventive detention orders, 19 search and seizure warrants, and eight other measures.
