Albertina Carri inaugurates the 2026 season of MUNTREF with 'Punto impropio', a video installation about memory and disappearance
The MUNTREF museum in Argentina will launch its 2026 programming with two exhibitions, including a video installation by Albertina Carri that addresses themes of memory and the collective experience of disappearance.
The National University of Tres de Febrero Museum (MUNTREF) will kick off its 2026 programming on March 14 with two exhibitions that delve into the connections between memory, personal narratives, and collective experiences. The highlight of the inaugural day will be the video installation 'Punto impropio' created by Argentine filmmaker Albertina Carri, alongside a collective exhibition titled 'Infancias. Algunas historias de chicas y chicos en el mundo', curated by Diana Wechsler.
'Punto impropio' emerges as one of the most significant contemporary works on the memory of Argentina's last dictatorship, featuring a central image that prominently displays the name of the artist's mother, Ana MarΓa Caruso, against a dark background. This visual element serves as a gateway into Carri's exploration of the emotional and material traces left by absence, compelling viewers to engage with the profound impacts of disappearance on personal and collective identities.
The installation is underpinned by letters written by Carri's mother to her daughters, transforming intimate yet universal themes of loss and memory into a powerful artistic expression. By confronting the horrors of the past through a personal lens, 'Punto impropio' invites reflection on the ongoing repercussions of historical trauma, thereby reinforcing the importance of remembrance in contemporary discourse around human rights and personal histories in Argentina.
