Susan Külm finished in the top ten for the first time in her career

Estonian biathlete Susan Külm achieved her career-best result by placing tenth in the women's sprint at the Otepää World Cup.

Estonian biathlete Susan Külm marked a significant milestone in her career by securing the tenth position in the women's sprint event at the Otepää World Cup, which represents her best result to date. Külm executed a flawless performance, completing both shooting rounds with zero penalties, showcasing her proficiency in the sport. She finished the race with a time that put her just over one minute behind the winner, Julia Simon from France, who crossed the finish line at 21:29.5.

Previously, Külm's best result was twelfth place in the Ruhpolding individual distance last season. In the current season, she had already displayed promise with a thirteenth place finish in the sprint during December's race in Hochfilzen. The competition in Otepää was fierce, with Külm narrowly missing out on a higher rank, as Italian competitor Lisa Vittozzi finished close behind her, just 2.9 seconds off the pace, and also completed the shooting rounds cleanly.

Külm's achievement is not only a personal triumph but also reflects the growing strength of Estonian athletes in biathlon. With more competitions ahead in the season, this result could serve as a stepping stone for Külm and possibly inspire her teammates as they aim for high placements in future events. The performance of other Estonian female biathletes in the same event was less notable, indicating room for improvement in the national team’s performance.
