ELSTAT/SEAA: Hybrid cars are gaining ground in Greece, with a 5.1% increase in new car sales
Hybrid car sales in Greece have risen by 5.1% in February, reflecting a broader trend of growth in the automotive sector despite previous declines.
In February of this year, car sales in Greece saw an increase of 4.9%, according to data released by ELSTAT. The report indicated that a total of 19,792 vehicles, including both new and used imports, were registered during this month, compared to 18,876 in the same month of the previous year. This follows a period of decline in sales from February 2025 to the corresponding month in 2024, where a 6.6% drop was recorded. The number of new cars registered reached 11,158, marking a notable 5.1% increase from the 10,614 new vehicles that were registered in February 2025.
In the first two months of the year, a total of 40,666 cars were newly registered, showing a slight increase of 0.1% compared to 40,638 in the same period last year. While the demand for new cars has slightly dipped by 1%, the hybrid car sector continues to experience a growth trend, indicating a shift in consumer preferences. The automotive market seems to be slowly recovering after a decrease in sales recorded during early 2025 compared to the previous year, indicating potential stability and growth moving forward.
The report also highlights that hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in Greece, contributing to the overall positive outlook on the automotive market. This trend could have implications for the environment and energy consumption in the country as more drivers choose hybrid options, reflecting a global shift towards sustainable transportation solutions. The continued increase in sales underscores the automotive sector's potential recovery and the ongoing transition to more eco-friendly vehicles.
