Main Results of Day 8 of the Paralympics: Oguri Wins Silver Medal, Kosuda Finishes 5th in Men's Snowboard
On Day 8 of the Winter Paralympics, Daiki Oguri won a silver medal in men's banked slalom snowboarding, while Junta Kosuda secured a 5th place finish despite struggling with an injury.
On the 8th day of the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics, Daiki Oguri from SCSK clinched a silver medal in the men's banked slalom event for athletes with leg impairments, marking Japan's third medal of the games and their 100th medal in the history of Winter Paralympics. Meanwhile, Junta Kosuda from Open House, who was the reigning world champion, placed 5th after facing difficulties due to a recent elbow injury sustained during training.
Kosuda expressed disappointment over his performance, stating that his injury prevented him from executing his usual technique on the snowboard. He suffered from pain that hindered his ability to control the board effectively, which led to a balance issue during the competition. Even after initially placing 4th in a previous cross event, he was disqualified over an interference judgment, prompting him to share a video on social media addressing the ruling while reflecting on the race's enjoyment, despite the challenges he faced.
In addition to Oguri's impressive performance, there were other notable outcomes in the Alpine skiing events. Takeshi Suzuki placed 4th in the men's sitting giant slalom, while Daiki Mori from Toyota finished in 7th place. Kosuda, despite his frustrations, celebrated Oguri's success, emphasizing the importance of camaraderie among competitors and expressing his desire to chase after Oguri to achieve a podium finish in the future.
