Verdict: former shopkeeper and seller discriminated against Romani people at Kontiolahti K-market – video proved the case

A court in North Karelia has convicted a former shopkeeper and a seller at the Kontiolahti K-market for discrimination against Romani individuals.

In a significant legal ruling, the North Karelia District Court has convicted Jari Venäläinen, the former shopkeeper of the Kontiolahti K-market, and a salesperson for their roles in discriminating against Romani customers. Testimonies and evidence presented during the trial revealed that Venäläinen had explicitly ordered his employees not to serve Romani individuals, resulting in a direct incident where a seller refused to sell an energy drink to a Romani woman. The court imposed fines amounting to €1,440 on Venäläinen and €1,240 on the seller, acknowledging the serious nature of their actions despite their denials of wrongdoing.
