After diesel price increase, gasoline reaches R$ 7 in some stations in Amapá; Procon investigates
Gasoline prices have surpassed R$ 7 per liter in some stations in Macapá, Amapá, leading to an investigation by Procon amid rising diesel prices due to international oil market fluctuations.
Gasoline prices have exceeded R$ 7 per liter at certain gas stations in Macapá, the capital of Amapá, as a result of a nationwide increase in diesel prices following a rise in international oil prices. This significant spike has raised concerns among consumers, prompting the consumer protection agency Procon Amapá to launch an investigation into the justifications for these price increases. Procon's inquiry aims to ensure transparency and fairness in gasoline pricing amidst allegations of unjustified price hikes.
The investigation was initiated following numerous consumer complaints regarding consecutive price hikes in both Macapá and Santana. Procon has already conducted inspections at ten gas stations and distributors to collect documentation and invoices to analyze whether the prices charged at the pump reflect the actual purchase prices of the fuels. Consumer protection agency representative Lana Silva emphasized the importance of gathering this information to trace the origins of the price increase and ascertain if it stems from distribution companies or other sources.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that Brazilian gasoline is not solely composed of pure gasoline, as it contains various additives, including a diesel component. This mixture raises questions about the overall pricing structure and whether consumers are being charged fairly. With the ongoing scrutiny from Procon, gas stations may face pressure to justify their pricing decisions as consumers and regulatory bodies look for answers amid rising fuel costs.
