In Recife, all 12 gasoline stations fined by Procon were found to have increased their prices unjustifiably, with some charging R$ 7.50 per liter for regular gasoline. This increase comes despite the lack of any official announcement of price hikes from the state-owned company Petrobras, the main fuel supplier, which had actually decreased prices in January. Consumers had reported sudden spikes in gasoline costs across various outlets, prompting action from Procon.
