Procon bans gas pumps at a gas station on Avenida dos Holandeses for fuel irregularities

Procon has shut down the fuel pumps at São Marcos gas station in São Luís due to irregularities found in the gasoline quality.

On Wednesday afternoon, Procon-MA, the Institute for Promotion and Defense of Citizens and Consumers in Maranhão, executed a ban on the fuel pumps at the São Marcos gas station located on Avenida dos Holandeses in São Luís. This action followed a routine inspection that revealed irregularities in the fuel quality, raising concerns over consumer protection and safety. The integrity of fuel quality is essential for both vehicle performance and consumer rights, making Procon's intervention a significant move in maintaining standards.

During the inspection, it was disclosed that the tanks providing both aditivated gasoline and regular gasoline did not meet the standards set forth by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP). Specifically, it was determined that the gasoline contained a percentage of alcohol that exceeded the legally allowed limit of 30%. Such discrepancies in fuel composition not only compromise vehicle performance but also pose financial risks to consumers who may face vehicle malfunctions as a result of using substandard fuel.

Consequently, Procon-MA has mandated the shutdown of the fuel pumps, which will remain closed until corrective measures are taken. This action underscores the importance of rigorous enforcement of fuel quality regulations and reflects Procon's commitment to safeguarding consumer interests in Maranhão. By holding gas stations accountable, Procon aims to prevent potential hazards and ensure that consumers receive the quality they pay for, reinforcing the agency's role in consumer protection within the marketplace.
