HIFK acquires a new player from Sweden – a familiar face for Olli Jokinen

HIFK has signed a new defender, Lukas Pilö, from Sweden, who is familiar to coach Olli Jokinen.

Helsingin IFK has made a significant acquisition by securing defender Lukas Pilö from Timrå IK in Sweden. According to multiple insider sources, negotiations between Pilö and HIFK are well advanced as the team prepares for the next season. The 26-year-old player has had a strong season in the Swedish league, participating in 38 games and contributing four assists while playing primarily as a right-handed defenseman.

Lukas Pilö has an established rapport with HIFK's head coach Olli Jokinen, having played under his management during the previous season at Timrå. In 31 games last season, Pilö recorded 1 goal and 6 assists, showcasing his potential in the defensive role. With over 300 games played in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), Pilö has only played professionally in his home country, suggesting that this move to HIFK represents a new chapter in his career.

Looking ahead, HIFK's defense line is set for a significant overhaul next season, as several current defensemen are expected to leave the team. In addition to Pilö, HIFK has already secured another new addition, Jesper Ahlroth from KooKoo, as reported back in January. These changes indicate a strategic shift for the team as they aim to strengthen their defense and improve their competitiveness in the upcoming season.
