K. Budrys on conversations with Taiwan about investments: I am convinced we will finalize

K. Budrys expressed confidence in finalizing investment projects with Taiwan, highlighting a positive trend in Taiwanese investments in Lithuania despite their currently modest sum.

K. Budrys, speaking to reporters at the Seimas, indicated that discussions regarding investment projects with Taiwan are currently underway. He emphasized the importance of turning discussions into concrete agreements rather than remaining in the realm of possibilities or theoretical plans. Budrys's assurance suggests a commitment to enhancing Lithuania's economic ties with Taiwan and moving forward on specific projects that could strengthen this relationship.

A backdrop to these conversations is the growing interest in Lithuanian-Taiwanese cooperation since the establishment of a Taiwanese representative office in Lithuania over four years ago. Although Taiwanese investments in Lithuania have seen significant growth according to the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, the total amount, which rose from €0.53 million to €7.21 million from 2021 to 2024, still remains modest. This illustrates both the potential for growth in mutual investment and the challenges that may exist in attracting larger investments.

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė previously emphasized the necessity of renewing discussions with Taiwan regarding their investments in Lithuania. While the specific format for these renewed discussions has yet to be determined, the focus on enhancing economic collaboration continues to be a priority. Understanding and addressing the factors that could expand Taiwanese investments will be critical for Lithuania’s evolving economic landscape.
