Ukrainian drones will be produced in Romania. Kyiv is building new military facilities

Ukraine and Romania have agreed on several important economic initiatives, including joint gas development and the construction of two energy interconnectors.

Ukraine and Romania have solidified their partnership through a series of critical economic initiatives aimed at enhancing energy cooperation and military production. Among the agreements reached, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced plans for Ukrainian drones to be manufactured in Romania, further integrating the defense capabilities of both nations. This collaboration was highlighted during a joint press conference in Bucharest with Romanian President Nicusor Dan, emphasizing the importance of regional security amidst ongoing tensions due to the conflict involving Ukraine.

In addition to military advancements, both countries are focused on energy security, signing deals for two interconnectors that will enable the flow of electricity between their respective power grids. This infrastructure development is vital for Ukraine as it diversifies its energy sources and strengthens its grid, especially relevant in light of previous Russian aggression targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Zelensky remarked on the significance of this collaboration, expressing hopes that the first interconnector would be operational by the end of the year, thereby enhancing not only Romania's energy stability but also contributing to Ukraine’s energy security.

The discussions also touched on broader economic initiatives, including the exploration of joint gas deposits and the upgrade of railway systems for improved connectivity with neighboring countries, reflecting an overall strategy to boost regional cooperation. With the ongoing conflict prompting shifts in military and energy policies, the strengthening of ties between Ukraine and Romania showcases a proactive approach to self-reliance and collective security in Eastern Europe.
