The Cultural Capital Literary Awards ceremony will take place on March 14 in Tallinn, and will be broadcast live on ERR's cultural portal.
The Cultural Capital Literary Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 14 in Tallinn, specifically at the Writers' House in the hall with a black ceiling. This year, viewers will have the opportunity to watch it live on the cultural portal of ERR. The awards celebrate literary works published across various categories, highlighting Estonia's vibrant literary scene and acknowledging the contributions of its authors.
A jury appointed by the literature foundation has selected candidates for the awards. They evaluated texts published in the years leading up to 2025, including foreign literature reviewed by a specialized jury. Notably, this yearβs main jury consists of Elisa-Johanna Liiv (chair), Maarja Vaino, and Tiit Aleksejev, who have chosen a range of literary works to contend for the prestigious awards, indicating a strong selection process.
The categories include prose and poetry, with nominated works from prominent Estonian authors such as Aliis Aalmann, Mehis Heinsaar, and Doris Kareva. By recognizing excellence in literature, the Cultural Capital Literary Awards not only promote reading and writing in Estonia but also highlight the importance of cultural investments in nurturing the country's arts and education systems. The ceremony and its broadcast represent a significant event for the local literary community and wider audience.
