"It's a condition": the top executive of Bayer said under what circumstances the company would consider returning to the soybean seed business

Juan Farinati, CEO of Bayer Cono Sur, stated that international standards must be established for the company to consider re-entering the soybean seed market in Argentina.

Juan Farinati, President and CEO of Bayer Cono Sur, has expressed that for companies to invest in Argentina's soybean seed business, there must be international regulations and standards in place. He emphasized the need for the country to have aligned agricultural policies and intellectual property laws to attract investments, particularly referencing the UPOV-91 treaty that the Argentine government is considering in alignment with agreements made with the United States. Farinati subtly critiqued the suggestions made by the Mesa de Enlace, pointing out that their approach to intellectual property rights for autogamous crops might not be sufficient to meet the expectations of foreign investors. He indicated that Bayer, which exited the soybean seed market in 2021, sees these international standards as a condition for contemplating a return to this sector.
