HÕFF Opens with a Fresh Finnish Horror Film
The Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival opens this year with Finnish director Hanna Bergholm's horror film about motherhood, featuring Rupert Grint.
The Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival (HÕFF) is set to open with the screening of 'Öölaps', a psychological horror film directed by Finnish filmmaker Hanna Bergholm. This film presents a unique narrative focusing on the feelings and experiences associated with motherhood, showcasing an unsettling transformation of what appears to be a perfect life in nature into a horrifying nightmare. The film features notable performances from Seidi Haarla and Rupert Grint, who is well-known for his role as Ron Weasley in the 'Harry Potter' series.
'Öölaps' tells the story of a couple who relocate to a house in the middle of the forest, only to find that their ideal life becomes a chilling ordeal following the arrival of their newborn son. This film is described as an unprecedented exploration of parental emotions and the challenges that come with raising a child. The timing of this horror film's premiere is particularly notable as it will debut at the Berlin Film Festival before being released in cinemas across Finland and Estonia later in the fall.
The screening of 'Öölaps' is a highlight of the festival’s opening ceremony on April 30, held at the Haapsalu Cultural Centre, which will be hosted by Mart Sander. The film's distinctive take on motherhood in the horror genre is anticipated to draw significant interest, contributing to the festival's reputation for showcasing innovative films that push the boundaries of traditional narratives.
