HÕFF Reveals First Films from This Year’s Program
The Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival has announced the first two films included in this year’s lineup.
The Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival (HÕFF), scheduled for the last days of April and the first days of May, has announced two films that will be part of this year's program. These films present unique stories that weave together elements of horror, fantasy, and psychological tension. Each narrative contains deeper themes that resonate with classic fairy tales, brought into a modern context.
The first film is an anthology titled 'Toredad inimesed' ('Yndige Mennesker'), which intertwines four distinct stories with roots in Hans Christian Andersen's tales, including 'The Dead,' 'The Story of a Mother,' 'The Snow Queen,' and 'Aunt Toothache.' Each story tackles darker themes, depicting characters who face psychological and existential dilemmas, such as a young man caring for a comatose patient who uncovers a terrifying secret, and a musician in a creative crisis who finds inspiration in pain.
With the reimagining of classic tales through a horror lens, these films reflect contemporary issues while paying homage to the timeless narratives of Andersen. The festival aims to provide a platform for filmmakers to explore the intersection of horror and fantasy, engaging audiences with thought-provoking content.
