The Health Insurance Fund has concluded negotiations with contract partners: nearly 3 billion euros will go to healthcare institutions
The Health Insurance Fund in Lithuania has finalized contracts allocating €2.98 billion to healthcare institutions, ensuring increased funding and services for patients this year compared to last year.
In Lithuania, the Health Insurance Fund (VLK) has announced the conclusion of negotiations with its contractual partners, resulting in the allocation of €2.98 billion for healthcare services. This funding represents an 11.7% increase compared to the previous year and a 5.3% increase over the amounts actually paid for services last year. VLK's Deputy Director, Tatjana Golubajeva, emphasized that this year’s budgeting will ensure not only enhanced healthcare service availability for patients but also the performance of contractual obligations related to the collective agreements that govern the healthcare workforce's salaries.
The increase in budgetary allocation is crucial as it directly impacts the healthcare facilities and their operational capabilities. This year, 368 healthcare institutions will provide primary ambulatory personal health care services to patients. VLK has earmarked €552.7 million from the National Health Insurance Fund specifically for these services, noting a 5.5% increase in funding compared to the previous year. Such financial commitments showcase the government’s efforts to enhance the quality of care and ensure that healthcare providers can maintain stability and improved working conditions.
Overall, this funding boost is seen as a positive development for the healthcare sector in Lithuania, ensuring that essential health services are funded and accessible to the public. The increase in budget also suggests a commitment to addressing previous shortcomings in healthcare provision and worker compensation, particularly for the lower-paid employees in the health sector. Patient assurance regarding the legitimacy and availability of healthcare services funded by the Health Insurance Fund marks a significant stride towards enhancing the overall health system in Lithuania.
