Night attack on Ukraine. A historic library was burning
A recent missile and drone attack by Russian forces on Ukrainian cities resulted in significant damage, including a fire at a historic library.
In the early hours of March 13, Russian military forces launched a coordinated attack on Ukrainian cities using a ballistic missile and over a hundred drones. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 117 drones were intercepted, but the attacks still led to considerable destruction. Notably, there were hits recorded from the ballistic missile and eight strike drones across seven locations, alongside debris falling in five areas, indicating the severity of the assault.
Prior to this night attack, on the evening of March 12, Russian forces targeted port infrastructure in the Odesa region, leading to damage to a food storage facility. Fortunately, first responders managed to extinguish the fire that erupted, and there have been no reported casualties or injuries from either of the attacks. This series of assaults underscores the ongoing volatility in Ukraine amidst the continuing conflict with Russia, marking a distressing escalation in hostilities.
The context of these attacks reflects the persisting threat faced by Ukraine from Russian military operations, which not only aim to undermine military capabilities but also significantly harm civilian infrastructure. The attack on the historic library adds a cultural dimension to the conflict, as it emphasizes the broader implications of war on national heritage and the ongoing resilience of Ukrainian defenses against attacks on such fronts.
