The head of Lithuanian airports, S. Bartkus, announced that he will leave his position

S. Bartkus, the head of Lithuanian airports, is leaving his role after 2.5 years of service, during which he oversaw significant developments and improvements in airport operations.

S. Bartkus, who has served as the head of Lithuanian airports for 2.5 years, has announced his departure from the role. During his tenure, he has witnessed considerable changes in the operational landscape of Lithuania's airports, particularly in managing flight schedules and enhancing passenger experiences. Notable challenges that he addressed included long queues at terminals, which were a prominent issue when he began his work in the autumn of 2023.

Under his leadership, the new Vilnius terminal was successfully constructed and opened, receiving positive feedback for its efficiency in handling passenger flow and minimizing stress during boarding. Asynchronous screening procedures, such as the exemption from removing laptops and liquids, have been in place in Vilnius and Kaunas, making travel more convenient as other European airports continue to make adjustments. Bartkus has also transformed relationships with airlines from a passive to a partnership model, focusing on shared goals that benefit Lithuania's economy with over 100 flight destinations this summer.

The announcement coincides with the airport's projected surpassing of pre-pandemic passenger numbers in 2024, with expectations to hit new high records in 2025, outpacing Riga to become the largest market in the Baltic states. Bartkus's departure marks a significant transition time for the organization, which has been on a trajectory of improvement and expansion under his leadership.
